Listening and Communication Post 3

Hopefully this week you have paid attention to your focus when you communicate. Is your focus on you, your material, or the people you are speaking with? If it is not on the people what types of concrete things can you do or need to change to get better at this?

When i play sports i focus on myself. Not because i am self obsessed or think it's all about me because it's not. I focus on myself because i can push myself, i find it very difficult to push others. I need to be a better communicator and motivator.

Ex: When running sprints after practice the other day, i find it very easy to push myself to be one of the first ones done, but i find it difficult to push others to be there with me.

I need to stop focusing so much on myself. Slow down during sprints and motivate others to hussel instead of being first.

Listening and Communication Post 2

Can you inspire and motivate people? Do you express your vision in such a way that your people are able to understand, internalize, and implement it? When you talk to people one-on-one are you able to connect with them?

I am not very good at inspiring people to do better, but i can motivate people. i motivate by example, and hate to say it, but by cheering. In practice i try to constantly cheer my team on to do their best. I do not express my vision well because i am unaware how to. Even before i express my vision to my team i must first come up with goals and places to go. When i talk to people one-on-one i am able to connect with them, even though it's not like the typical girl would.

Ex: In practice yesterday i motivated Becca to try harder because she was frustrating people by obviously not doing her best. Becca has the type of personality that is tore down easily by the other girls, she is very self conscious. So instead of yelling at her like i would some of the other girls i just motivated her to do her best. The results were very good. :)

I need to be able to create and execute visions to improve my team. I need to keep up on the one-on-one conversations because knowing the different personalities on the team has proved to be an advantage when working with them.

Listening and Communication Post 1

Are you a good listener? Why or why not? What types of things make you a good or bad listener? What types of concrete things can you start doing today to make you a better listener?

Yes, i am a good listener because i do not like expressing my emotions or opening up to people so i let them open up to me. Lack of time makes me a bad listener. To fix this i can attempt to free my schedule. With being a student athlete i do not have alot of time on my hands, therefore i need to manage my time so that i can practice, do homework and still have time left over to listen to others.

Ex: Last tuesday i was talking to Charlori and we really needed to talk, but i rushed our conversation because i was running late to soccer practice. This constantly happens after school and im at soccer for a couple of hours six days a week, then i come home to do homework for a couple more hours this leaves very little free time.

So instead of having serious talks after school i should try to have them before school or at lunch. This way we would not be interupted.
